چکیده

In this paper, a system is designed for improving the quality of novel view synthesis. To make the virtual view synthesis look better, the basic idea is to perform model refinement with important camera information of the novel view. In this system, we first use the reconstructed visual hull from shape from silhouette and then refine this 3D model based on the view dependency. The 3D points of the model are classified into the outline points and the non-outline points according to the virtual viewpoint. To refine the model, both of the outline points and the non-outline points are used to move the 3D points iteratively by minimising energy function until convergence. The key energy is the photo-consistency energy with additional smoothness energy and contour/visual hull energy. The latter two energy terms can avoid the local minimum when calculating the photo-consistency energy. Finally, we render the novel view image using view-dependent image synthesis by blending the pixel values from reference cameras near the virtual camera.

Image-based photo hulls for fast and photo-realistic new view synthesis

We present an efficient image-based rendering algorithm that generates views of a scene’s photo hull. The photo hull is the largest 3D shape that is photo-consistent with photographs taken of the scene from multiple viewpoints. Our algorithm, Image-Based Photo Hulls (IBPH), like the Image-Based Visual Hulls (IBVH) algorithm from Matusik et. al. on which it is based, takes advantage of epipolar ...

Using Photo-Consistency to Register 2D Optical Images of the Human Face to a 3D Surface Model

ÐIn this paper, we propose a novel method to register two or more optical images to a 3D surface model. The potential applications of such a registration method could be in medicine; for example, in image guided interventions, surveillance and identification, industrial inspection, computer assisted manufacture, computer assisted maintenance, or telemanipulation in remote or hostile environment...

Occlusion Handling and Image-based Lighting using Sliced Images in 3D Photo Collections

This paper presents novel methods to handle potential occlusion problems and to render realistically the lighting of embedded virtual 3D objects in photo-based 3D worlds. These 3D worlds are called 3D Photo Collections. The first focus of this work handles potential occlusion problems between image parts of photos and the embedded virtual objects by dividing photos into 3D segments, which we ca...

From Images to Video: View Morphing of Three Images

This paper presents a novel image-based approach to generate a video of a scene based on only three wide-baseline uncalibrated images without the use of a 3D model. After automatically recovering an accurate trifocal plane amongst the original cameras, we compute the correct dense disparity maps between each rectified image pairs by using our feature-based trinocular-stereo algorithm. Employing...

Featureless 2D-3D Pose Estimation by Minimising an Illumination-Invariant Loss

The problem of identifying the 3D pose of a known object from a given 2D image has important applications in Computer Vision ranging from robotic vision to image analysis. Our proposed method of registering a 3D model of a known object on a given 2D photo of the object has numerous advantages over existing methods: It does neither require prior training nor learning, nor knowledge of the camera...
